Writing prompts for people who make things
But I’m a maker, not a writer!
True... but when we tell the story of our work honestly and creatively, we help others connect to what we make and who we are. Whether you’re writing an artist statement, a website blurb, a social media post, or a funding application, the writing prompts on So, What Do You Do? will inspire you to be specific about your process of working, your evolution as a maker, and the ideas and passions that fuel your work.
Your work is unique. These writing prompts will embolden you to articulate its story in ways that engage, surprise, promote and sell what matters to you the most.
Be clear about the story of your work to help the work speak for itself.
The So, What Do You Do? Writing Map is created in collaboration with The Goldsmiths’ Centre, the UK’s leading charity for the professional training of goldsmiths. The Goldsmiths’ Centre supports jewellers, silversmiths, and the wider industry, improving skills and shaping careers.
The Writing Map is devised and written by Charlotte Dew and Shaun Levin with illustrations by Karolina Jonc Buczek. The A3 map (297x420mm) folds down to A6 (105x148mm, postcard size), and is printed on 170gsm paper.
